Pakistan captain Salman Butt has warned England they face a massive task to retain the Ashes this winter.
Andrew Strauss will lead his side Down Under confident of keeping hold of the famous urn following last summer’s success.
But Butt, whose side currently trail 2-1 in the four match npower Test series, thinks England’s bowlers will struggle in the southern hemisphere.
He said: “If this is the English bowling they will find that hard in Australian conditions.
“England are best in their conditions but anywhere else you play, I think Australia have the edge.”
Butt claimed his first Test victory as captain against Australia as the two sides drew 1-1 in a two game series in England earlier this summer, and he is tipping Ricky Ponting’s side to emerge triumphant this winter.
He added: “My experience says Australia are a much better side in their home conditions than they were over here in the last Ashes.
“The ball doesn’t swing as much there and the bowlers have to work very hard.”
