England opener Alistair Cook insists he will be fit to face Pakistan this summer despite concerns about an ongoing back problem.
The Essex batsman has missed three matches in recent weeks, but claims he should be fully fit to face Shahid Afredi’s side when the four-match series begins on July 29.
He said: “There is a possbility I might need surgery in the future, but it’s not high at the moment. I’ll be fit for the series against Pakistan unless something happens.
“My back is obviously a little bit frustrating but hopefully I’ve just turned the corner on that.
“It is something I’m having to manage at the moment, but I don’t think it will be ongoing forever.
“Whilst we know what it is, we are just trying to sort it out and try and make sure I can carry on playing as well.”
