England vs Australia: Jos Buttler nutmegs Steve Smith to produce sensational run-out during World Cup semi-final

England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler took nutmegging to a whole new level at Edgbaston.

The skill, designed to beat and humiliate an opponent in football by slotting the ball through their legs, is rarely seen in cricket – until now!

With crowd favourite Steve Smith on 85 in the Cricket World Cup semi-final, the Australia batsman took a risky single to the non-striker’s end with the ball trickling to Buttler behind the stumps.

England’s wicketkeeper quickly ditched his glove and shied at the bowler’s end, with Smith running across the line of his throw.

However, in a remarkable moment, the ball travelled through Smith’s legs and clattered into the stumps, with the third umpire confirming the batsman was short of his ground.

It was like something out of a 2002 Nike advert.

Smith had led Australia’s resurgence after their top order fell to 14-3 in the seventh over.

His wicket proved a crucial blow and with just a few overs remaining, England were able to rattle off the tail and restrict Australia to a sub-par 224.

And the hosts chased it down with 107 balls to spare for the loss of just two wickets in order to reach their first Cricket World Cup final since 1992.
