Hampshire batsman Michael Lumb will miss Twenty20 finals day after being ruled out for the season with a broken foot.
Lumb, who was a valuable member of England’s World Twenty20 winning squad in May, suffered the injury after stopping a shot from Craig Kieswetter in Hampshire’s County Championship game with Somerset on Thursday.
It means the 30-year-old will miss this Saturday’s finals day, at his county’s Rose Bowl ground, as well as England’s two Twenty20 internationals against Pakistan next month.
Lumb’s absence may force Hampshire to reconsider their stance over Kevin Pietersen.
The Royals have failed to select England’s star batsman since he announced he would be leaving the county at the end of the season, but the 30-year-old could now in come as a straight replacement for Lumb.
