World Twenty20 champions England secured a comfortable Twenty20 victory over Pakistan thanks largely to Eoin Morgan and Michael Yardy’s unbroken half-century partnership.
The hosts came in to bat second chasing a target of 127, something they achieved with 17 balls to spare and five wickets remaining thanks to Morgan’s 38 from 24 balls and Yardy’s 35.
The tourists struggled to gain momentum. Mohammad Yousuf hit 36 and Umar Akmal an unbeaten 35 but the hosts fielding and the form of spinners Swann and Yardy ensured a torrid tour continued.
Defeat will weigh heavy on a Pakistan team which has come under heavy scrutiny throughout this tour with continuing allegations of match-fixing emerging in the News of the World and a 3-1 defeat to England in npower’s four Test series.
The two sides meet in the second game on Tuesday, September 7.
