Pakistan have given themselves a chance of tying the four match npower Test series against England after clinching victory at the Oval by four wickets.
The visitors were in control of the game from day one after bowling England out cheaply, but they were made to work hard to get over the finishing line.
Needing just 148 to win, the tourists lost six wickets in their run chase, and at one stage it looked as though England might pull off a remarkable win.
Mohammed Youssuf and Kamran Akmal both fell with the score on 132, leaving Pakistan still 16 short of their victory target with only the tail to come.
But a steady 16 not out from Umar Akmal, supported by Mahammad Amir at the other end, saw the visitors home as they reduced the deficit in the four match series to 2-1 with the final Test at Lord’s to come next week.
