Andrew Strauss says England are out to prove a point in the fourth and final Test against Pakistan.
England performed poorly with the bat in the third Test at The Oval, with only Matt Prior and Alastair Cook making significant contributions, as Pakistan cut the hosts’ lead in the series to 2-1.
But Strauss expects his under fire batsmen to silence the critics and come good in the final Test at Lords, which gets underway on Thursday.
“I know we are going to come out and prove a point this week,” said Strauss.
“I’ve got every confidence that our batsman will react very well this week. Sometimes a bit of a wake up call like that is a good way to spur you on to go and get a big score for your team.
“The ball has moved around a bit and batting has been challenging for both sides but, as international cricketers, you have innings where you don’t do well and you’ve got to come back strongly and quickly and our batting line-up are very keen to do that.”
