Andrew Flintoff has told talkSPORT that England will regain The Ashes in Australia this winter.
The former all-round superstar, now on the comeback trail following knee surgery, is sure that Andrew Strauss will lead his team to glory Down Under.
And not only does ‘Freddie’ believe England will triumph on enemy soil, he thinks they’ll do so easily
He told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast: “I don’t think it will be close. Look at the two sides and we’re definite favourites.
“We won the Twenty20 World Cup and you look at the way the team is shaping up, every time they take the field they’re playing with confidence and expecting to win. I don’t think that will be any different this winter.
“Australia aren’t the force they used to be and I think England are getting better.”
One of England’s key men in Australia will inevitably be Kevin Pietersen, who is also currently recovering from injury.
The batting star has missed the last month after an Achilles tear, but is now ready to return to competitive cricket. The problem is, he can’t get a game.
Hampshire are refusing to select the South African-born batsman as he announced he will leaving the county at the end of the seasob, but Flintoff insists they should pick him .
He added: “What do you mean they don’t want him? Get the most out of him while you can.
“He’s Enlgand’s best player. He and Marcus Trescothick are the two best batsman I’ve played with, and Kevin is a special talent. If he was at Lancshire he’d be welcomed with open arms.”
