Dana White has laid out an exciting start to 2020 for the UFC.
However, the UFC president insists the deal is not done yet.
“We have nothing done, nothing is even close to being done. So, I hate to even talk about this stuff and say it because it might not happen … it might happen. But, we’re looking at Cowboy.”
McGregor had said previously he wanted a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov, the man he lost to in October 2018, but White has remained steadfast in his belief that Tony Ferguson is next in line for the UFC lightweight champion.
He has now confirmed the fight between Ferguson, who is on a 12-fight unbeaten streak, and Khabib, who is unbeaten at 28-0, will take place in the first quarter of 2020.
“Nothing is holding [that matchup] up,” White told the Schmo of a Nurmagomedov vs Ferguson fight. “The fight is in the process of being made. It’s obviously the next fight to make, so it will happen.”
If McGregor can win his bout with Cerrone – assuming it does indeed get made – one has to imagine the Irishman would be in line to face the winner of Ferguson and Khabib.
Although, the rising Justin Gaethje might have something to say about that, too.
