Rose Lavelle and Samantha Mewis grabbed two apiece, while Lindsey Horan, Megan Rapinoe, Mallory Pugh and Carli Lloyd also netted to better Germany’s 11-0 win over Argentina in 2007.

In a show of ruthlessness, the USA took a 3-0 lead into the half-time break before pressing down on the accelerator.

They scored four times in 10 minutes in the second-half, before adding another six goals in the final 16 minutes of the game.

Several Thailand players were clearly upset at the full-time whistle, with forward Suchawadee Nildhamrong in tears, and some of the Americans attempted to console their opponents.
